Softball - Travel

Travel Softball teams play in Spring, Summer and Fall. Teams are formed on player tryouts and typically play surrounding towns, including tournaments.

Berkeley Heights is committed to ensuring all kids who want to play travel softball have a team to play on.

Email BH PAL Softball Commissioner Roger Foltynewicz at rfolty@bhpal.org with any questions.

FALL INFORMATION

Season Length – the season will run for 7-8 weeks [Beginning in early September]

Amount of Games per week – usually 1-to-2 games per week

Game scheduling - flexible in the fall

PAL encourages our athletes to participate in multiple sports and recognizes Fall Softball is traditionally in its off-season.  Travel softball coaches are expected to schedule and work around in-season PAL sports like soccer and field hockey.

Fall Softball is typically less competitive than Summer Softball and focuses on player development.

What to Bring

Players should bring their own equipment (gloves, facemasks, bat, helmet) and catchers should bring their catching gear if they have their own.

Players should also bring plenty of water!

Tryouts

This year independent coaches will be evaluating players over the course of the winter

training sessions to determine team placement, rather than a one-day, two-hour tryout.

We hope to encourage on-going improvement, healthy competition, and give the players

the most accurate evaluations, using this approach.

Tryouts will consist of evaluation of speed, hitting, fielding, arm-strength, pitching and

catching.

What to bring? – Players should bring their own equipment to the tryouts

(gloves, facemasks, bat, helmet) and catchers should bring their catching gear if

they have their own. Players should also bring plenty of water!

Once we go through the evaluation process, we will assign players to the proper team within their appropriate age-division. We hope that we can roster every player that has registered, but that will be dependent on roster sizes and number of parent volunteer coaches.

Placement on a team is NOT guaranteed; however, we will make every effort to place everyone.

Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers to help at each tryout, but you cannot volunteer in the same tryout that your daughter is participating in.

Please email me at rfolty@bhpal.org if you are available to assist with things like player check-in, hitting grounders/fly balls, pitching during hitting evaluations, etc.

Winter Training

Included in your spring registration is indoor training from early February to late March to prepare for the Spring Season.
